Performing Troupe Auditions!!

If you, or someone you know, may be interested, we’re planning our next auditions for our performing troupe. Auditions are being held on Thursday October 21, 2010. All who audition will be required to attend at least one of the two Sunday practices (Oct 10th & 17th) before the auditions (both days strongly encouraged, though.)

Requirements:
    • at least 18yrs old
    • attend at least one of the two Sunday practices (Oct 10th & 17th) before the audition
    • at least 1 year of belly dance lessons (unless you’re an experienced dancer)

Practices for audition:
    • will learn a short choreography from a Palmetto Oasis troupe member

Audition:
    • perform a 2 min solo dance (of your own choreography) to music of your choice
    • dress in appropriate costume to compliment dance and music style
    • perform the short choreography taught at the practices
    • freestyle dancing with others

All practices and audition will be located at the St. Andrew’s Family Fitness location on Sam Rittenberg Blvd, West Ashley.  If accepted into the troupe, at some point, you’ll be expected to choreograph a large troupe dance that becomes the property of Palmetto Oasis.

Being a troupe member is a big time/expense commitment – but SO worth it. We have troupe practice every Thursday from 6:30-8pm in the St. Andrew’s Family Fitness location on Sam Rittenberg in W. Ashley and when preparing for a performance, we have Sunday afternoon practices and some on your own. Our main show is in May for the N. Charleston Arts Festival where we dance on the main stage but perform for various events throughout the year. Check out our Web site calendar for past performances. Our dues are $5 a month that go into the kitty to buy cds for music, supplies, marketing, etc.

We perform a wide variety of dance styles from cabaret, Spanish, Bollywood, tribal fusions, ATS, and use many props: Zils, veils, fans, shamadan’s, swords, etc.
